West Virginia Drug Intervention Institute Invites DisposeRx to Participate in Monthly Television Program

Recently I had the opportunity to go back to West Virginia for the first time in about 30 years. My husband and I drove from North Carolina to the Mountain State at the invitation of Dr. Susan Bissett, president of West Virginia Drug Intervention Institute (WVDII). Susan and team host a monthly television program, Healing Our Communities, produced by the West Virginia Library Commission, and invited me to join them on set.

Unfortunately, Susan was under the weather on taping day, but WV DII’s new education director, Bruce Whitten, stepped in and certainly made the WV DII Team proud!

An invaluable DisposeRx partner, we are grateful WV DII provided us with an opportunity to talk about the importance of medication disposal, as well as National Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet Day and DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Also, we were able to bring attention to WV DII’s pilot project—Nalox(One) WV, which is using State Opioid Response grants and other funding to train pharmacists on opioid use disorder screening and reimburse them for providing education about opioid risks to patients, as well as Naloxone and DisposeRx packets.

Thank you, Susan, Bruce, state employees and citizens of Charleston, WV, for your hospitality and commitment to medication safety!
