Friday Night Lights: Fight Against Opioid Misuse Kick Off is October 28

Florida’s largest medication disposal education and distribution event will be held at varsity high school football games on eve of DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

TAMPA, FL – OCTOBER 28, 2022 – DisposeRx, Inc. and Live Tampa Bay are teaming up to host the largest medication disposal education event in Florida’s history on Friday, October 28, at four Florida high school football games.

During the Friday Night Lights: Fight Against Opioid Misuse program, each student athlete and game attendee will receive a DisposeRx at-home medication disposal packet and disposal information. Live Tampa Bay—a non-profit coalition of business, faith and philanthropic leaders who are committed to reducing the number of opioid overdoses and deaths—purchased the packets to be distributed.

“We lost 1,540 fellow Tampa Bay citizens due to opioid overdose in 2020, and unfortunately, our regional numbers are far above the national and statewide average. The Live Tampa Bay coalition knows that proper medication and disposal are critical components of prevention initiatives, and we are delighted to bring together a number of stakeholders to make these events happen.”

Executive director of Live Tampa Bay

Working with the St. Petersburg Police Department, Tampa Police Department, Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, and Citrus County Sheriff’s Office disposal education events will be held on Friday, October 28 at the following varsity football games:

  • Lecanto High School vs. Citrus High School; 3810 W. Education Path, Lecanto, FL; 7 pm ET
  • Mitchell High School vs. Sunlake High School; 3023 Sunlake Blvd., Land O’ Lakes, FL; 7 pm ET

“We are proud to partner with Live Tampa Bay, the local high schools, coalitions and law enforcement to educate families about the risks associated with opioids and the importance of medication disposal. We believe that education is critical to mitigating the overdose crisis and are working with and committing resources in communities throughout the country to share information and encourage people to dispose of unused medications.”
